Editor’s note: This post will be updated with the latest news during election night. Update for latest.

4:30 PM PT/7:30 PM ET

Donald Trump was expected to win another state, West Virginia, a deep red state, when the polls closed there.

Polls also closed in two key swing states — North Carolina and Georgia — but they are too early to call.

4:02 PM PT/7:02 PM ET Donald Trump wins Kentucky and Indiana, Kamala Harris wins Vermont

Donald Trump has won the states of Kentucky and Indiana, and Kamala Harris has won Vermont, according to AP projections.

None of the states were in doubt for either candidate, and a number of additional states are expected to be called in the next hour or so after a wave of poll closures.

Polls have just closed in Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia and parts of Florida.

3:01 PM PT/6:01 PM ET: The first 2024 polls close in Indiana and Kentucky

Early polls for the 2024 election have closed in parts of Indiana and Kentucky.

The first projections are expected at 4pm PT/7pm ET, when a host of states’ polls close, including the swing state of Georgia.

Networks are also releasing more exit poll data, including one that showed 80% of voters made up their minds about who they were going to vote for by September. Only 3% have made up their minds in the past few days, according to CNN data.

2:11 PM PT: First exit poll data shows broad dissatisfaction with how things are going in the US

The first set of exit poll data shows widespread dissatisfaction with the way things are going in the US

About 72% said they were dissatisfied or angry with the country’s direction, compared with 26% who said they were enthusiastic or satisfied, according to CNN.

President Joe Biden’s approval rating is just 41%, with 58% disapproval.

That said, a large majority — 61% — said they believe America’s best days are in the future.

As for the most important issues, 35% of respondents said it was democracy, followed by 31% who said it was the economy, 14% who said abortion and 11% immigration.

The figures are early and will be updated during the day.

Meanwhile, Kamala Harris made a stop at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, DC to thank staff and volunteers and to make a call to the phone bank. Harris has done a series of radio interviews today and plans to do Zerlina Maxwell’s SiriusXM show tonight.

Donald Trump, meanwhile, is already claiming “massive cheating” in Philadelphia, just as he did in 2020.

Seth Bluestein, a Philadelphia city commissioner, said there was “absolutely no truth to this claim. It’s another example of disinformation. Voting in Philadelphia has been safe and secure.”

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner wrote on X: “There is no factual basis whatsoever within law enforcement to support this wild claim. We have been inviting complaints and allegations of impropriety all day long. If Donald J. Trump has any facts to support his wild claims, we want them now. We’re not holding our breath.”

1:42 PM PT: Network set to release first batch of exit poll data

The presidential election, billed as one of the most significant in history, will soon see a first batch of data, although the numbers will not be actual results.

Network plans to provide their first update at 5:00 PM ET/2:00 PM PT, which will provide some insight into how voters feel about the state of the country, what their top issues are, and what they’re looking for in a candidate.

The exit polls come from Edison Research for the National Election Pool, and are done for a consortium of media companies, including CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC. The initial data does not provide insight into who will win. It will only be released when the polls close in a particular state.
