Adam Schefter reveals how close the Chiefs may be to trading for Marshon Lattimore

The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football, and Adam Schefter dropped some interesting information on the pregame broadcast.

According to Schefter, “(The Chiefs) are monitoring developments in New Orleans. They’ve checked in on Marshon Lattimore, and that would be a player that I think the Chiefs could be involved with tomorrow before the 4 p.m. deadline. We’ll see , whether the Chiefs can figure out a way to get something done with another trade.”

The Chiefs, who have already made some trades ahead of the deadline Tuesday afternoon, clearly aren’t messing around when it comes to trying to pull off the first three-peat of the Super Bowl era. For those unfamiliar with Lattimore, he was drafted one pick after Patrick Mahomes in 2017 and has spent his entire career with the Saints.

As we all know, however, the Saints have been on the battle bus this season and are coming off their seventh straight loss. Their head coach was fired Monday morning, paving the way for the Saints to trade any of their players who might attract interest from other teams. Lattimore would make sense in Kansas City considering he’s on a team that isn’t going anywhere, and the Chiefs could use another cornerback in their already stout defense.

The Chiefs lost their top cornerback in the offseason when L’Jarius Sneed was traded to Tennessee, but the secondary has still played pretty well. Trent McDuffie has cemented himself as CB1, but adding depth, especially with a piece as talented as Lattimore, would be a home run for Brett Veach and the front office.

Something that could be concerning, though, is that Lattimore has dealt with his fair share of injuries, missing two games this season and not playing a full schedule since 2021. That said, Lattimore is still playing well, ranked 38th out of 205 qualifying cornerbacksaccording to PFF.

If the Chiefs go for it and make this move, there is no doubt that Lattimore makes them a better team. It will prove that Veach and the front office are truly all in on getting the three-peat and going down in NFL history. Gotta love it.
