Hillary Clinton’s 2016 running mate Tim Kaine appears on SNL

Saturday Night Live brings together the vice presidents and vice presidents-to-be tonight, plus some Margaret Atwood and porn stars.

Okay, that was Sarah Sherman playing The Handmaid’s Tale the writer and Aurora Snow were only name-checked on the NBC sketch show What is it Namhuh?: Selection edition. Still, Kamala Harris really showed up in the cold open. However, the current VP wasn’t the only person who finished second on a national ticket to be in Studio 8H this weekend.

“This is the most important election in American history,” said sharper contestant Ben, played by tonight’s host John Mulaney. “Democracy is at stake,” he added. But for all the importance and hyperbole, it turns out that Ben was all passion and drive and no memory.

Especially when it came to Virginia Senator Tim Kaine – as you can see below:

“I was Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential running mate at the time,” pleaded the Democrats’ 2016 VP pick to quizzical faces. “You said it was the most important election in American history and that democracy was at stake. It’s been less than eight years. What’s my name?”

The best the re-elected incumbent senator got was current VP nominee Gov. Tim Walz (they look a lot alike, and there’s the name) or Tim Scott, the Republican junior US senator from South Carolina.

“You voted for me to be a heartbeat away from the Oval Office in an election more recent than the release of Zootopia,” Kaine mocked Mulaney’s annoying and arrogant Ben. “What’s my name?”

Still no luck.

There may be other acts in American life, but not much of attention.

In what unsurprisingly turns out to be a policy packed SNL just days before the close race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump comes to an end, the Kaine cameo was witty but destined to be overshadowed by Veep’s appearance with Maya Rudolph at the top of the show.
