Chappell Roan’s Old Facebook Status Shows She Was ‘Decided’ To Be On ‘SNL’

Chappell Roan can officially cross a major item off his bucket list!

Roan, 26, appears as a musical guest on the November 2 episode of Saturday Night Live – and it’s apparently a goal the singer-songwriter has had for more than a decade.

On Friday, Nov. 1, Roan — whose birth name is Kayleigh Amstutz — posted a screenshot Instagram of her Facebook status from April 2011. The status simply read, “I’m determined to be on SNL.”

“Good luck, honey!” the singer captioned her Instagram post, “@nbcsnl Tmrw night with @johnmulaney .” Comedian John Mulaney will host the episode.

It is unclear whether Roan’s younger self was determined to perform as musical guest or host. When you talk to comedian Bowen Yang for Interview Magasinet in August, Roan explained that she originally thought she wanted to be an actress.

“I originally started doing music because I wanted to get my foot in the door for acting,” she said. “And then I moved to Los Angeles and I was like, ‘F— that.'”

“The industry is legitimately so scary and it’s so out of my control,” she continued. “I can release music whenever I want. I don’t have to wait for a casting director to say, ‘It would be great if we cast you, and then we’ll decide your schedule for the next three months.’ ”

Roan appeared in several campaigns for the latest SNL episode. The clips show Roan in an elaborate turquoise costume standing next to Mulaney, 42, and co-star Ego Nwodim.

“Hi, I’m John Mulaney and I’m the host SNL this week with musical guest Chappell Roan,” Mulaney says in the first of two videos.

“And we won’t tell anyone our secret,” says Nwodim, looking directly into the camera.

“We do sketches,” Mulaney continues, and Roan adds, “And I do songs.”

“But we won’t tell anyone our secret,” Mulaney says firmly.

“Because we made a promise to each other never to tell anyone,” the trio say eerily together in unison.

The second promo video is a fun nod to a viral TikTok trend featuring Roan’s wildly popular song “HOT TO GO”. In the clip, Nwodim hilariously fails in his attempt to get Mulaney on board, prompting Roan to quip: “He don’t get it, girl.”
