Republican congresswoman, 81, falls down marble steps at Capitol

An 81-year-old Republican lawmaker fell bloody down some marble steps just outside the House chamber Friday afternoon.

Rep. Virginia Foxx, RN.C., accidentally fell down a staircase between the second and third floors of the Capitol after the first session of the House of Representatives this year.

Multiple accounts revealed that Foxx’s fall caused her to begin bleeding.

She was seen bleeding from her head and leg as staff applied tissue to her wound to stop the flow of blood.

Shortly after her fall, medical personnel rushed to her aid and began assisting her.

A statement released from her office after the incident reveals that the octogenarian lawmaker appears to be doing fine.

‘Rep. Foxx slipped while walking down the marble steps outside the House chamber after going up to speak with her family in the gallery,’ began a statement from her office, which was shared with DailyMail.com.

‘After being helped to her feet and attended to by medical staff, she proceeded on her own to the attending physician’s office to be treated for a few individual wounds. Everything seems to be fine.’

Foxx also joked about the incident on her X account: ‘I’m a mountain woman and we’re tougher than a $2 steak.’

“Thanks everyone for your prayers – just a few small cuts and I’m fine,” the statement read.

Although she joked about the incident, senior lawmakers getting hurt is no laughing matter as Foxx’s health scare is just the latest to rock Washington.

Last month, two other senior 80-somethings were also involved in terrifying tumbling.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and former Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell — two of the most powerful people in Congress — both fell and hurt themselves in December.

Pelosi, like Foxx, also recently slipped and fell on marble stairs.

The 84-year-old California Democrat collapsed during a European trip to Luxembourg with several other lawmakers just before Christmas. A lawmaker later blamed her iconic high heels for playing a role in the incident.

Pelosi’s fall down the stairs was so severe that she broke her hip.

She had just returned from Europe after her hip replacement to make it to Washington in time to vote Friday in the slim speaker election.

McConnell, meanwhile, collapsed during a Senate lunch on Dec. 11, the latest in a series of health problems over the past few years, including multiple falls.

Wheelchair medical personnel were called to help after the senator fell during lunch and sprained his wrist. He also cut his face and later wore a bandaid.

An aide was assigned to help the 82-year-old Kentucky Republican to and from the Senate floor so the lawmaker could do his work.

McConnell has been involved in several falls and some bizarre freezing incidents in recent years.

After serving as the longest-serving Republican Senate leader in history, the 82-year-old shockingly announced that he would not seek re-election to a leadership position.

He had been the leader of the Republican Senate Conference since 2007.
