‘Home Improvement’ star Zachery Ty Bryan arrested for third time in 12 months

Zachery Ty Bryan has started the new year with another run in with the law.

The former child star, known for playing Tim Allen’s eldest son on the hit 90s sitcom Home improvementwas arrested Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, SC, and charged with second-degree domestic violence, authorities said Weekly entertainment. Sheriff’s Office Records states Bryan, 43, was booked into the Horry County Jail Thursday, with his bond set at $10,000.

Representatives for Bryan did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment on Friday.

The arrest marks Bryan’s third in the past 12 months. In October, he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and driving without a valid license. Before that, he was arrested in February on a felony charge of DUI and a misdemeanor count of contempt of court.

This is also not the first time Bryan has been arrested for alleged domestic violence. In July 2023, the actor was charged with aggravated assault, third-degree robbery and assault. He pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault later that year, eventually serving seven days in jail and 36 months of supervised probation, according to PEOPLE.

In addition, Bryan was arrested in October 2020 on a felony, strangulation and misdemeanor charge, assault charge and interfering with a police report. He pleaded guilty to two counts, menacing and assault in the fourth degree, constituting domestic violence, the following February.

Bryan reflected on the incident in 2020 in a interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023. “We didn’t even get the physical,” he said. “We got really loud. We screamed, and because we were in a townhouse that had (thin walls), everybody could hear… At the end of the day, (the police) throw a lot of counters at you because in the end they end wants you to ask for something.”

Also speaks to THRBryan’s former TV dad Allen said of his legal troubles: “I don’t know what’s going on with him.” He added: “Zach is a great kid who has grown into a complex man. All you can do is step aside and let someone go through their process. At a certain point he went from the guy I know to a person reacting to situations that I had nothing to do with and can’t control, I don’t know what happens when people become corrupt.

After Home improvementBryan appeared in episodes of popular shows including IS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallvilleand Veronica Marsand also played a supporting role in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Apart from seven credited appearances in the 2022 superhero franchise The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!)Bryan has not appeared in film or television since 2009.
