A major winter storm is set to sweep across most of the country’s central section this weekend into early next week, bringing a swath of dangerous snow and ice.

WINTER STORM EXTENDS OVER 1,500 MILES TO BLEACH HEAVY SNOW, HAZARDOUS ICE FROM CENTRAL PLAINS TO MID-ATLANTIC

Winter storm warnings now cover millions, while ice storm warnings warn of accretion reaching potentially devastating thicknesses of over half an inch. It can lead to widespread power outages and prolonged travel headaches as power lines, trees and roads become covered in ice.

Winter weather is expected to continue east into the Mid-Atlantic states on Monday, bringing perhaps some of the heaviest snow in three years.
