About 1,500 miles of the United States will be hit by a major winter storm this weekend. The storm has already started on the west coast and will bring snow and ice to the central and eastern parts of the country over the next few days. 3 January 2025.

A major winter storm is set to sweep across most of the country’s central section this weekend into early next week, bringing a swath of dangerous snow and ice.

Winter storm warnings now cover millions, while ice storm warnings warn of accretion reaching potentially devastating thicknesses of over half an inch. It can lead to widespread power outages and prolonged travel headaches as power lines, trees and roads become covered in ice.

Winter weather is expected to continue east into the Mid-Atlantic states on Monday, bringing perhaps some of the heaviest snow in three years.
