Man United are targeting Viktor Gyokeres to push for a January exit

Sporting Lisbon striker Victor Gyokeres will reportedly push for an exit from his current club in the January transfer window.

The Red Devils have found goals to be a rare commodity this season, scoring just 21 in 19 Premier League games.

As a result, United have been linked with various attacking options, but one link that has refused to go away since Ruben Amorim came on board is Swedish goal machine Gyokeres.

The link is a natural as he enjoyed huge success under the current United manager and it has been reported that the English side would be interested in reuniting the two.

It has recently been suggested that Amorim is not prepared to wait this summer for the striker and has requested the board to make a deal this month.

Reports in Spain via Football transfers claims Gyokeres will also do his best to speed up a potential move away from Portugal.

“The Swedish player has taken a drastic decision: he does not want to wait any longer for a possible offer from Barcelona and has decided to accelerate his future immediately.”

“According to several sources close to the operation, the striker has made the decision not to continue waiting for an offer that seems difficult to realize in this market. Instead, Gyökeres has chosen to take the leap and accelerate his exit from Sporting Lisbon.”

“The decision has been key as a very prestigious club like Manchester United, led by Rubén Amorim, has come forward to close his signature.”

United’s new boss “is convinced” Gyokeres has the quality and goal-scoring ability to help the England side salvage something from what has been a disastrous season so far.

The 26-year-old is seen as an “ideal” fit and there is a belief that his past relationship with Amorim could be “crucial” for the Red Devils to complete a deal.

Despite Barcelona’s interest in the player, they seem unlikely to pursue a deal due to their own financial problems, which have seen them unable to sign summer recruit Dani Olmo. Therefore, “Gyökeres’ future now seems ever closer to Manchester United.”
