Former Clark County, Indiana Sheriff Jamey Noel, who was sentenced in October to 15 years in prison on multiple felony charges, will face more legal issues in 2025.

Noel, who also faces three years in prison suspended for probation, had been accused of using public funds for personal purchases and having sheriff’s office employees work in a barn where he stored, among other things, a collection of classic cars. He pleaded guilty to 27 charges in August, including tax evasion, theft and official misconduct.

Noel was also ordered by Special Judge Larry Medlock to pay $270,000 and more than $3 million in restitution, much of which will go to New Chapel EMS, which Noel previously managed.

“You have tarnished the badge and failed everyone in law enforcement,” Medlock said just before handing down Noel’s sentence.

Indiana State Policewhich led an investigation into Noel after it was contacted by the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, issued dozens of search warrants and reports during a yearlong investigation. In its findings, the ISP alleged that Noel had made personal purchases using funds from New Chapel EMS’ bank account.

Noel is scheduled to be in Nyt Slots Penitentiary until June 5, 2033, records show.

Here’s what else we’ve learned about the Noel case since he was first arrested in November 2023.

Jamey Noel asks for forgiveness during sentencing

Former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel addressed the court during his sentencing and asked for forgiveness.

After Noel’s tenure as sheriff expired in 2022, current Sheriff Scottie Maples’ staff discovered a wiretap leading from the assistant chief’s office to Noel’s former office. Maples said he learned of “annoying and possible criminal activities.”

From there, state troopers interviewed witnesses, visited properties and requested credit reports and tax records. As more search warrants were served, investigators suspected others close to Noel might also face charges. His wife, Misty Noel, and daughter, Kasey Noel, face theft and tax evasion charges and are scheduled to go on trial on February 3, 2025.

In April, Noel was found in contempt of court for possessing two handguns, a violation of a bond set for November 2023. Noel was then booked into a Scott County jail and remained there until his sentencing in October, including .a. Medlock raised his bond from $75,000 to $1.5 million while still serving a 60-day sentence for contempt of court.

What’s next for Noel and his family?

Although Misty and Kasey Noel are scheduled to go to trial on the same day, it’s possible their trials will begin on different days because Misty’s has priority. Both women had been in negotiations with the state as recently as October, but no agreement has been announced.

The Noels have several civil cases with pending trials. Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita took the family to court in an attempt to get them to repay New Chapel EMS the funds they are accused of using for personal purposes. A judge then ordered the Noels not to make any property transfers without the court’s permission. Three properties connected to the family have since gone up for sale.

According to the court records, the next hearing in the trial is scheduled for January 14, 2025.
