When 2025 starts, calendars are already filled with public holidays.

In addition to the official holidays recognized by the Office of Personnel Management, President Joe Biden has declared January 9 a national day of mourning following the death of former President Jimmy Carter.

The year will also see the celebration of religious and cultural holidays such as Easter, Hanukkah and Ramadan along with other annual holidays.

Here’s a look at the most important public holidays in 2025.

Federal holidays 2025

Here are the dates for 2025 federal holidays, according to Office of Personnel Management:

  • Wednesday 1 January: New Year’s Day

  • Monday 20 January: Birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Monday 20 January: Inauguration day

  • Monday, February 17: Washington’s birthday

  • Monday 26 May: Remembrance Day

  • Thursday, June 19: Juneteenth

  • Friday, July 4: Independence Day

  • Monday, September 1: Labor Day

  • Monday, October 13: Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day

  • Tuesday, November 11: Veterans Day

When is Inauguration Day?

President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in at his inauguration on Monday, January 20, as specified in the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

When is the Super Bowl and other sports dates to know in 2025

The Super Bowl is expected to take place on Sunday, February 9. After a week later, the NBA All-Star Game is Sunday, February 16.

Major League Baseball Opening Day is expected on Thursday, March 27 and the All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 15.

The Boston marathon is Monday, April 21st and the New York City marathon is Sunday, November 2nd.
