‘Significant’ blizzard headed to Columbus

While Ohio avoided a white Christmas in 2024, several rounds of snow are expected to hit Columbus in the coming days, kicking off a wintry new year, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

An inch of snow is expected to fall after 11 p.m. Thursday night, and less than an inch is expected to fall Friday, according to an NWS forecast.

“Travel impacts due to the winter weather can be expected during this period.” The NWS said in a hazardous weather forecast posted Thursday morning.

There will be a reprieve for snow Saturday before a 50% chance of snow after 5 p.m. 13 Sunday. The chance of snow will increase through Sunday night with an 80% chance of precipitation.

There is also a 50% chance of snow on Monday.

  • Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 35. Wind gusts as high as 20 mph are possible.
  • Thursday evening: There will be snow, mainly after 23. The low will be around 29. Chance of precipitation is 90% and snow accumulation of about an inch is possible.
  • Friday: There is a chance of snow, mainly before 8. It will be cloudy and the temperature will drop to about 25 times at. 17. Wind gusts as high as 28 mph are possible. The chance of precipitation is 60%. Less than an inch of snow accumulation is expected.
  • Friday night: It will be mostly cloudy with a low temperature around 19.
  • Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 25. Wind gusts as high as 21 mph are possible.
