New toll rates go into effect on Highway 407

New toll rates have gone into effect on Highway 407 ETR.

Tolls and charges have changed, while new toll zones and vehicle classifications have been introduced.

In one previous news releaseofficials with the highway said that for light vehicles, tolls will increase by three to 14 cents per kilometer, depending on the time of day and zone traveled.

The camera fee, account fee and transponder rental fee also increased.

The annual transponder fee is now $29.50 plus tax, up from $24.50. The annual fee for each additional transponder on the same account is $11.95, up from $9.95.

Transponders eliminate camera fees and account fees.

“With the adjustment to tolls and fees, the majority of personal transponder customers can expect a monthly bill increase of about $8,” officials said.

That’s $96 more per year.

It will of course vary from person to person, depending on when, where and how often they take 407 ETR.

Motorcycles and medium-sized vehicles now also fall under a new classification to “better reflect a vehicle’s impact on the road.”

For example, motorcycles will pay less than sedans, and large trucks will pay more.
