VIDEO: AEW uses 1980s pop song as new Dynamite theme

With a new era of Dynamite starting Wednesday, AEW also debuted a new theme song for the show: one that was both an early 1980s pop hit and one that’s significantly different from what wrestling fans are used to to.

The Pointer Sisters’ “I’m So Excited” greeted fans on both TBS and the Max streaming service to open Wednesday’s show, paired with an updated montage of video clips that also included Big Boom AJ and his son, Big Justice, in addition to Shaquille O ‘Neal and Snoop Dogg’s AEW Performances.

The song debuted in September 1982 and hit number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with a re-release in July 1984 reaching number nine.

Wednesday’s show was notable for being the first to simulcast on both TBS and Max.

AEW boss Tony Khan announced earlier Wednesday that Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)” will return as the Collision theme song from Saturday. He hasn’t been shy about licensing music in the past, most notably using songs like “The Final Countdown” for Bryan Danielson, “Seek and Destroy” for Sting, and both “Cult of Personality” and “Miseria Cantare” for CM Punk.
