Texas vs. Arizona State live scores, updates, highlights from the 2025 College Football Playoff quarterfinals

The 2025 College Football Playoff quarterfinals continue this week. In the Peach Bowl, we will see No. 5 Texas take on No. 4 Arizona State.

Both teams enter this game with some impressive resumes. Texas finished the regular season with just one loss to Georgia, earning a trip to the SEC title game. The Longhorns again fell to the Bulldogs there, losing 22-19 in overtime.

Arizona State, which finished 3-9 last season, started the year 5-2 with road losses to Texas Tech and Cincinnati. But the Sun Devils burst into the Big 12 title game conversation in mid-November. That month, the Sun Devils had back-to-back wins over ranked opponents in Kansas State and BYU, finishing 5-0 that month. ASU then beat a 10-win Iowa State team 45-19 in the Big 12 title game to earn a first-round bye and first-ever trip to the CFP.

Texas is led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, who has 2,867 yards passing with 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Running back Quintrevion Wisner is third in the SEC in rushing yards with 973 and five touchdowns on the season. Longhorns ranked ninth overall in offensive SP+ after the first round of the playoffs.

Arizona State’s offense has one of the strongest rushers in all of college football in running back Cam Skatteboo. The senior, who finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting, has a career-high 1,538 yards with 19 touchdowns on the season. The Sun Devils are currently 22nd in rushing offense and are getting 198 yards on the ground per carry. match. Sun Devils’ quarterback Sam Leavitt has 2,663 yards passing, 24 touchdowns and five interceptions.

The two opposing coaches have also been on quite different journeys. Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham, who is from Scottsdale and graduated from ASU in 2013, is in just his second season as the Sun Devils’ head coach. At 34, he successfully turned his alma mater around in 2024, a season the media predicted ASU would finish dead last in the Big 12.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, meanwhile, has been coaching since the early 2000s. After spending time as an assistant, mostly at USC, he was Washington’s head coach from 2009-13 before becoming USC’s head coach from 2014-15. He was fired in October 2015 and subsequently received treatment for alcoholism. He spent 2016, 2019-20 with Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide, with a stint as the Atlanta Falcons’ offensive coordinator from 2017-18 in between. He has been Texas’ head coach since 2021 and led the Longhorns to a playoff berth last season.
