Lions’ David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs rock Sonic-inspired cleats

DetroitDetroit Lions Running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs clearly approve of their nicknames – Sonic (Gibbs) and Knuckles (Montgomery).

If you doubted that, just check out the cleats they rocked for Thursday’s Thanksgiving matchup with the Chicago Bears. Both wore kicks inspired by their respective video game characters, with Gibbs’ shoes sporting a white stripe and Montgomery’s donning a yellow stripe.

Montgomery and Gibbs arrived at Ford Field with Sonic and Knuckles mascots alongside, and they wore pictures of the characters on their jackets.

The duo together with Lions assistant head coach/running backs coach Scottie Montgomery, was as well involved in a CBS Sports commercial promoting their clash with Chicago. Scottie Montgomery is seen in the ad getting mad at Gibbs for leaving Sonic rings all over the facility, and he tells David Montgomery to “stop smashing everything you touch.”

Montgomery and Gibbs combined for 82 yards on 12 carries in the first quarter against the Bears.
