Katie Holmes’ daughter Suri Cruise spotted in NYC on college break ahead of Thanksgiving with the actress’ mom

Suri Cruise was spotted enjoying a Brooklyn coffee trip as she returned to her mother Katie Holmes in New York City for the Thanksgiving break on Sunday.

The 18-year-old, whose father is global movie star Tom Cruise, is currently studying at the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University of the Arts in Pittsburgh.

Tom is reportedly sending money for her tuition, but he hasn’t been seen with his daughter in more than a decade amid allegations of an estrangement.

But Suri enjoys a warm bond with Katie, who she was seen visiting in the Big Apple last month during her fall break from college.

Now the showbiz legacy is back in the city that never sleeps to ring in the start of the holiday season with her mom on Thursday.

She found time for a solo outing in the outer boroughs on Wednesday, appearing in Brooklyn in a cozy outfit with a thick olive green anorak.

Katie was spotted the same day heading to Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theater where she continues her run in a revival of Our Town.

The classic play by Thornton Wilder originally opened in 1938 and has now been mounted with a cast including Jim Parsons and Zoey Deutch.

Spotted heading to work on Thursday, Katie demonstrated her reliably winning street style, wrapping a chic black coat over a sweater with an extravagant collar.

Her revival of Our Town opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theater last month and has been met with a lukewarm response from the critical fraternity.

Suri entered college this fall after graduating from New York’s famed LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts earlier this year.

The high school, which is said to have inspired the film Fame, has produced a formidable array of celebrities over the years.

Notable alumni range from Al Pacino and Liza Minnelli to Jennifer Aniston and Adrien Brody to newer faces like Ansel Elgort and Timothee Chalamet.

After graduating high school, Suri now lives in Pittsburgh and attends Carnegie Mellon, where she is said to be ‘leaning towards’ studying fashion.

“She’s a smart girl and she’s becoming a very intelligent mature young woman,” an insider recently revealed to DailyMail.com. ‘She has a very close group of loyal friends and she knows exactly where she’s coming from.’

Suri’s mother, on the other hand, was ‘overwhelmed’ at the prospect of her moving away. “Katie is very proud of her, but is also extremely overprotective,” a source shared.

Katie, who rose to fame in teen drama Dawson’s Creek, started dating Tom in 2005 and got engaged to him seven weeks into the relationship.

Their Scientology wedding was held at Castello Orsini-Odescalchi in Bracciano in November 2006, seven months after Suri was born.

Katie filed for divorce in 2012, which was finalized just 10 days later, with Katie retaining primary custody of Suri while Tom was granted visitation, via People.

Ron Miscavige, father of Scientology leader David Miscavige, told MailOnline in 2016 that Katie’s misgivings about Scientology – including the effect it could have on Suri – contributed to her decision to leave Tom.

The Top Gun Maverick star reportedly paid Katie $400,000 a year until Suri’s 18th birthday, and will now send money towards her college fees.

Tom has not been pictured with his daughter for 11 years, and in 2018 it was alleged that he had distanced himself from Suri.

“Every person is allowed to see their child if they want to,” an insider said Us Weekly. ‘He chooses not to because she is not a Scientologist.’
