Lakers injury report: Cam Reddish, Dalton Knecht available, Jaxson Hayes out, vs. Spurs

UPDATE: The Lakers have given us an update on the injury report. Jaxson Hayes is officially out against the Spurs on Wednesday because of the right ankle contusion he suffered in Tuesday’s game against the Suns.

Both Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish were questionable earlier in the day, but have now officially been ruled available for this road game in San Antonio.

Knecht is dealing with a right quad contusion and Reddish has some soreness in his left ankle.

Los Angeles is currently on a three-game losing streak and will be hoping to avoid dropping their fourth straight game.

The original story follows.

Things could hardly have gone worse for the Lakers on Tuesday. In the final minutes of a blowout loss to the Suns, the team’s first loss in the NBA Cup, Jaxson Hayes went down with an apparent foot injury following a dunk.

Hayes had only just returned to the lineup after missing several weeks with a sprained ankle.

It was a fairly harmless play that led to the injury. After a pass from Cam Reddish found Hayes open under the basket, the big man jumped for the dunk and immediately screamed in pain.

As he finished the piece, he immediately crumpled to the ground in pain. He eventually had to be helped off the floor and straight to the dressing room.

After the game, the Lakers announced that Hayes had aggravated the right ankle sprain that he had originally injured. The team will provide an update on his status ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Spurs.

There was no landing on the foot of a player or twisting of the ankle. In reality, it was hard to see anything that would have led to the injury. But if it’s an aggravation of the injury, it’s hard to imagine he’ll be back on the pitch anytime soon.

Right now there is no indication of exactly how long he will be out. The Lakers survived his absence in November thanks to solid play from Christian Koloko.

But can they afford to do it again ahead of arguably their toughest month of the season? It’s a tough situation for both the Lakers and Hayes.
