It’s time for Basketball: Spurs vs Lakers

Welcome to the game thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies, we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

Devin Vassell has missed a lot of time early in the season, but he’ll be back in the lineup tonight, which could be needed after a rough and tumble win over Utah Jazz last night that kept the starters in the game late. The silver and black have won four in a row, and a win tonight would make for the longest winning streak since the 2018-2019 season. I think everyone expected the Spurs to improve this season, but this kind of rise is more than most expected.

The Lakers coming off a 127-100 NBA Cup loss to Phoenix Suns in West Group B, which now has four teams tied in front with 2-1 records. The Spurs may well decide the winner of the group next week in their match against Phoenix. Tonight’s game is not part of the Emirates Cup, but it is important for both teams who are in the play-in part of the early season standings. The Spurs could move past the Lakers with a win tonight and move closer to sixth and avoiding the Play-In Tournament. It’s probably too early in the season to worry about the standings, but fun to think about how the Spurs now have a shot at both the early season NBA Cup and the postseason playoffs after missing out for a while.

The Lakers are struggling with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, especially with the likelihood that Victor Wembanyama will sit out the contest after taking a knee with Lauri Markkanen late in last night’s game. The Spurs are a different team with Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes and their veteran leadership this year so they can win tough games that they would have lost last season so it will be fun to watch. Let’s see what happens.

Game Prediction:

LeBron will miss the game with a food coma after eating too much Thanksgiving turkey in the pregame meal.

A final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
