Cynthia Erivo isn’t the only Emmy winner in her relationship — here’s who she’s dating

Cynthia Erivo maybe making headlines for Evil Part 1, but the adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical is far from Erivo’s first major role. In fact, she’s had a fair number of them before, both on Broadway and on the big screen, with a slew of awards and accolades to follow.

Born in London and educated at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Erivo rose to fame thanks to Celie’s role in the revival of The color Purple on Broadway. That performance earned her a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, and a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Musical Performance. And she didn’t stop there.

Then Erivo appeared Widows and Bad times at the El Royale before taking on the role of Harriet Tubman in the 2019 biopic Harriet. That performance earned her two separate Academy Award nominations—one for Best Actress and one for Best Original Song (Stand up).

Cynthia Erivo’s Partner and Dating History

Lena Waithe (2020-Present)

Erivo is reportedly dating the actress, producer and screenwriter better known for creating the Showtime drama series Chi. Waithe has also appeared in shows such as Master of None, This Is Us and Westworld. Waithe has even won a major award herself, the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, which she won in 2017 for writing an episode of Master of None.

In 2022, Waithe said Black that she and Erivo met in May 2018 at the Met Gala. At the time, Erivo shared a Instagram picture of the two with the caption: “I finally found my sister. Lena you are absolutely everything. You are perfection. What a meeting of the minds, glad to have you in my life! Sticking like glue!!! SHINE QUEEN SHINE!! “

The relationship reportedly became romantic around the time Waithe split from Alana Mayo. In May 2022, Erivo again posted one photo by Waithe on Instagramwith a caption that read “Today is when we celebrate a woman whose heart is bigger than the body that houses it. Happy Birthday @lenawaithe I ……. You know the rest!”

In June 2022, the two appeared at the Alvin Ailey Spirit Gala, and according to Page sixthey went into the hand. Erivo and Waithe have not yet officially confirmed their relationship, but Waithe has been Erivo’s date on several occasions Evil press events, including the premiere.

Mario Martinez (2017-2019)

Erivo dated actor and musician Mario Martinez for about two years, Erivo said Vanity Fair that Martinez had his eye on her ever since she was with her previous boyfriend and asked her out as soon as they broke up. During their time together, Martinez appeared regularly on Erivo’s Instagram. Those posts were deleted after the two broke up.

Dean-John Wilson (2013-2017)

Erivo reportedly dated British actor Wilson from 2013. The two met while working on the theater production of Sister law. They made theirs red carpet debut in 2016while starring in the West End production of Disney’s Aladdin. It is unknown why the two resigned.
