RT-141 bridge over I-95 in Newport, Delaware, damaged after being hit by raised dump truck | See road closures

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Traffic is moving slowly in several places around Philadelphia and in Delaware Wednesday morning due to not only holiday traffic, but crashes on the roadways.

All lanes of I-95 SB approaching RT-141 out of Wilmington, Delaware are closed due to a crash that happened around 4:15 a.m. I-95 NB near the sandbox at Rt-141 (Exit 5) is also closed due to crashed.

Officials say an upright dump truck hit the RT-141 bridge and then hit another truck, sending it into the brush on the side of the highway.

Chopper 6 was over the crash where crews could be seen trying to clear the roadway.

DelDOT said I-95 SB at RT-141, RT-141 over I-95 and I-295 at RT-141 are all closed as engineers inspect the bridge for damage.

It is not known how long the roads are expected to be closed.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

This crash is also causing major delays on I-495 and I-295.

I-95 NB near the Walt Whitman Bridge is also experiencing traffic delays.

Five vehicles were also involved in a crash around 6 p.m. 6:15, also on I-95 NB. This one is near the Front Street entrance. At least two people were seriously injured in the accident. It has since been cleared and traffic is flowing again in this area.

Chopper 6 was above the five-vehicle crash when it was cleared.
