Anthony Davis drills consecutive clutch threes, drops 40 in Cup opener

Already in the middle of scoring season no. 1 in his Hall of Fame-bound 13-year career, Anthony Davis didn’t necessarily need a different environment that led to an even higher level of play, but on November 15, 2024, the NBA Cup provided just that. Davis, known for his work on the In-Season Tournament stage just a year earlier, – able to visualize the victory even from 28 feet away – finds himself exposed with Victor Wembanyama’s defensive cheat towards the painted area. Letting one fly with confidence, Davis drains a 3-pointer, his second over four minutes late in the game, giving the Los Angeles Lakers a one-possession lead in the final moments of the game. The nine-time All-Star had a hand in seemingly every play imaginable during Los Angeles’ crunch clash against the classy San Antonio Spurs, highlighted by a game-winning assist just a handful of plays later. Outstanding in his performance on the road, Davis’ outburst gave way to 40 points (on 14-of-26 shooting), 12 rebounds, two assists, a swipe, two blocks and a pair of cold-blooded triples.
