Santiago Giménez close to Feyenoord returns after two months out with a thigh injury

Feyenoord head coach Brian Priske expects Santiago Giménez to return to action ‘soon’ after an extended period on the sidelines. The Mexican striker suffered a serious thigh injury in September which has ruled him out of the last 13 games. Finally, Priske has been able to give a positive update on his star man.

Santi has been pushing me all week to put him in this week’s game and next week,’ said Priske during Friday’s press conference. ‘He worked out today and almost all of yesterday. He is doing very well, but he needs a bit before he is fully available’.

Feyenoord meets Robin van Persie’s Heerenveen on Saturday night, a crucial opportunity for the Rotterdammers to rise back up the table. They are currently in fourth place behind PSV, Utrecht and Ajax. Injuries have been a major problem for Priske this season, but Calvin Stengs, Antoni Milambo and Julian Carranza are all expected to be available on Saturday.
