Ski webcam records deadly Boeing 737 crash

A Boeing 737 crash near the Lithuanian capital Vilnius made international headlines yesterday, November 25, 2024. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but German officials are concerned that “hybrid warfare” was used, according to CNN.

The cargo plane, operated by the international shipping company DHL, crashed in a residential area about half a kilometer from the planned runway at Vilnius airport. The aircraft was operated by four crew members. One died in the incident, miraculously the only fatality so far.

The crash was captured by various web cameras across the city of Vilnius, but the footage captured by a camera located at the top of Liepkalnis, a ski area located near Vilnius airport, will certainly be used as investigators work to determine the cause of the crash. The video of the crash is embedded below. Viewer discretion is advised

Pictures have emerged of the shocking scene shortly after the crash. The 737 reportedly crashed in a residential neighborhood before skidding hundreds of meters through a wooded area and crashing into a two-story building. As seen in the footage, the fireball from the crash lit up the early morning sky, temporarily blinding the webcam.

The webcam above has been temporarily disabled as crews work to clean up the wreckage.

Lithuania’s intelligence service, the State Security Department, has said it is still too early to determine the cause of the crash. POWDER will continue to update this story as more details become available.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased.
