Heavy snow hits the Colorado highlands just before Thanksgiving

DENVER— A heavy winter storm is now hitting the Colorado Highlands, and we’ll see some of that snow across the Denver metro area tonight!

A number of winter weather advisories are in effect across the western half of the state. We could see about 12 to 24 inches above 10,000 feet.

Travel through these areas can be quite difficult and even treacherous, so it’s a good idea to plan accordingly if you’re heading up into the mountains or traveling for Thanksgiving.

For metro Denver and the lower-lying areas, we will see a rain/snow mix starting Tuesday afternoon. That mix will change to all snow Tuesday evening. While we don’t expect heavy volumes in the metro, it could still lead to some slippery conditions, making travel tough on the roads.

The snow will move out on Wednesday evening. Thanksgiving looks to be pretty dry across the country, but it will be cool. We won’t see high temperatures in the 30s until Wednesday and Thursday.

As we head into the weekend, expect the cool, sunny, dry weather to continue. The mountains may see some scattered snow showers, but overall it looks like we’ll have a quiet stretch after the midweek storm. Keep an eye on the weather if you travel and stay warm!
