Jonathan Kuminga questionable, Ben Simmons out for Warriors vs. Nets

The Golden State Warriors are back in action tonight and look to bounce back from Saturday’s collapse against San Antonio Spurs. The Dubs are yet to lose back-to-back games this season and will look to keep that trend alive as they host Brooklyn Nets.

Brooklyn is limping into the Chase Center, so the Warriors have a pretty strong advantage in the health department. Here is the full injury report for both teams.

Warriors

Out — De’Anthony Melton (left ACL sprain)

I’ve only had to write this a few times since the news of Melton’s season-ending surgery, but it’s already making me sad.

Questionable – Jonathan Kuminga (illness)

Kuminga missed Saturday’s game with an illness and is in danger of missing this game as well. Hopefully he will be back 100% soon.

Nets

Out — Ben Simmons (dealing with lower back injury)

The Nets are frantically trying to get their All-Star back on track after a couple of lost years. After earning MVP votes, finishing second in Defensive Player of the Year voting and making the All-Star team in the 2020-21 season (with 76ers), Simmons has fallen off completely. Over the next three years, he played in just 57 games and averaged 6.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. He’s been a little healthier this year, and this will be his fifth absence of the season, but the numbers are still in line with his decline, not his rise to stardom.

Out — Bojan Bogdanović (recovery from left foot injury)

Bogdanović has torched the Dubs on a few occasions, but he won’t be able to do that tonight. He has yet to make his season debut.

Out — Dorian Finney-Smith (left ankle sprain)

Finney-Smith has found a nice home in Brooklyn, and has been a key part of the team’s starting lineup when healthy. But he missed the Nets win yesterday and will miss this game as well.

Out — Noah Clowney (left ankle sprain)

After playing in just 23 games last year, the 2023 first-round pick (No. 21 overall) has been a solid contributor off Brooklyn’s bench in his second season. But ankle sprains happen to all basketball players at one point or another.

Out — Day’Ron Sharpe (left hamstring strain)

Sharpe has yet to make his fourth season debut, but he is closer to being cleared to play.

Questionable – Dennis Schröder (right ankle soreness)

Schrōder has been given a big role in Brooklyn, where he is averaging a career-high 34.3 minutes per game. match and his highest points per game total (17.2) since the 2019-20 season. Even if he’s not a star, I always enjoy watching Schrōder and Steph Curry battle, even though we might not get to see it tonight.

Likely — Trendon Watford (recovery from left hamstring)

Watford missed the first 13 games of the season but has played in the last four. If he suits up tonight, it will be his first back-to-back of the season.

And that’s the damage report. Enjoy the game, Dub Nation!
