Laughter is essential to a happy marriage, says Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell believes that laughter is the key to a happy marriage.
The 57-year-old actor has been married to actress Viveca Paulin since 2000, and Will has revealed they have a “shared sense of humour”.
The Hollywood star told PEOPLE: “I think we were drawn to each other initially through our shared sense of humor, and that has remained the foundation of our relationship. I think ultimately it’s our bond that gets each other to laugh.”
Will’s wife has helped him cope with the pressures of fame and success.
The film star said: “Through all the ups and downs of life and raising a family – and with everything everyone’s dealing with, especially with how hectic life can be these days – it’s always great to have this partner in crime who you can be nice. step away from the fight and just share a thought and share a moment where you’re both still on the same page and you get to connect that way.”
Will proposed to Viveca on a beach – but he previously admitted it didn’t go quite to plan.
The actor explained that the suggestion actually turned out to be comical, even though he hadn’t intended it to be.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Will recalled, “She wasn’t having any of it. She said, ‘The beach is creepy at night.'” I was like, ‘Shut up, this is supposed to be really romantic,’ I was trying to think, what I wanted to say, and it just turned into, ‘So I, um, really like you, and anyway..’… So it was kind of funny, but not on purpose.”
