Bears safety Jonathan Owens honors wife Simone Biles with gymnastics celebration

Bears safety Jonathan Owens celebrated his fumble recovery Sunday afternoon with a gym-style party to honor his wife Simone Biles.

Owens forced a Vikings fumble at the 1-yard line and recovered it at the 2. He posted with both arms pointed in the air like a gymnast would.

Biles, the greatest female gymnast in history, was in attendance. She wore a blue jacket with the word “Owens” written across the front. The Bears included her in their breaks; they introduced Olympic medalists from around the state and had Biles run out of the tunnel last.

Owens said after the game that the Bears are talking about getting “four-point plays” — turning a touchdown into a field goal.

“It really became a seven-point game because it kept them out of the end zone. …” he said. “Just thinking, ‘Make a play, man.'”

Owens started his first game this season, replacing Elijah Hicks, who started in place of the concussed Jaquan Brisker.

Each of the Bears’ five consecutive losses has featured “What’s going on?” moments from Eberflus, and there is no indication that he learns from them.

With the Bears’ offense building momentum under new coordinator Thomas Brown, the defense is heading in the opposite direction. Over the last five games — all losses — the Bears’ defense ranks 18th in points allowed (23.2 average) and 31st in yards (395.4 average).
