Blake Harrell is named ECU Football’s next head coach, removing interim tag

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) – Blake Harrell will reportedly be named East Carolina’s official next head coach later this week, reported 247’s Stephen Igoe Monday morning.

Although a contract has not been formally approved, the board is expected to meet Wednesday to finalize it.

The board has called an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday at 10 am

The defensive coordinator is 4-0 since taking over as interim head coach, most recently with a 21-point comeback on the road this Saturday at North Texas.

After the game, the players took to the X to voice their support for Harrell as the next coach.

“#WeWantHarrell” Linebacker Ryheem Craig, Quarterback Katin Houser, Defensive Lineman Chad Stephens and others all posted on X.

Harrell joined the Pirates staff in 2020 as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach under Mike Houston.

For the 7-4 Pirates, the regular season ends with Navy at noon in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium this Black Friday, with an unknown bowl game to follow.
