ForbesToday’s NEW ‘Connections’ tip and answer for Saturday 23 November

Hey gang! I’ve been a bit under the weather the past few days so I’ve been trying to rest… and of course play some video games. Hope you have a more fun weekend than I did!

Today’s NEW Connections advice and answers for Sunday 24 November will come straight up.

How Connections plays

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on NEW website or game app.

You are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding out the connections between them. The groups can be things like clickable items, names of research study participants, or words with a body part in front.

There is only one solution to each puzzle and you have to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can mix up the words to perhaps help you see connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the hardest. The purple group often involves puns.

Choose four words that you think fit together and press send. If you guess and you’re wrong, you lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you may see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with some tips and if you’re really struggling, today’s is Connections answer. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chat.

If you have one NEW Free access or Spil subscription you can access Connections file. This includes all previous games of Connectionsso you can go back and play any of them you missed.

Apart from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my tips for each grid via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

What are today’s connections answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll down the page any further until you’re ready to find out today Connections answer.

This is your last warning!

Today’s Connections the answers are…

  • Yellow group — careen (HEAVE, LURCH, PITCH, REEL)
  • Green group – what a noun can be (IDEA, PERSON, PLACE, THING)
  • Blue group — electronic dance music genres (AMBIENT, HOUSE, JUNGLE, TRANCE)
  • Purple group — words after “ash” (BLOND, HILL, WOOD, WEDNESDAY)

I barely survived to extend my streak to three wins. Here’s how I managed:

My immediate thought was that maybe there was a group of characters from The Addams Family. But I didn’t see anything else to agree to LURCH, ONSDAY and DING right away.

It took me a while to spot something else that made sense (thanks, cool head!). But I finally drew a line between TRANCE and JUNGLE for blues.

There was nothing else, so I took a break to play a video game, hoping to come back with fresh eyes. Maybe I worry a little too much about mine Connections streak.

Maybe PITCH, HEAVE, PLACE and LURCH? They are all verbs. But no, I was one away. Dropping LURCH for REEL also left me one away, but switching to TRAY (I don’t know why) was a step in the opposite direction. I finally got the yellow ones though.

I had one life left to get the green and purple. Crunch time. At least the Addams Family concept was out of the equation with LURCH advocated.

Fortunately, it only took a few seconds to spot the greens on the smaller grid. There aren’t a ton of things that go with WEDNESDAY, so the purple connection became so clear (I struggled to find a good clue about it though).

A complaint, if I may. A noun is inherently a THING, so the green group doesn’t quite work. To use any other word would have dismissed the Addams Family red herring, so I understand why it’s here.

Okay, time for a nap.

PS I recommended a few songs by the wonderful Northern Irish rock band Ash (probably a pop band with loud guitars) when I did my “British bands I listened to a lot growing up” in the spring. Still, I feel compelled to do it again today. Turn up the volume for these, let loose and shake it all out:
