LaMelo Ball responds to coach’s ‘benching’ with win over Pistons

Earlier this week, all eyes were on Charlotte Hornetsbut for all the wrong reasons. The team lost a close encounter against the Brooklyn Nets in Tuesday’s NBA Cup games, helped by a forgettable performance by LaMelo Ball. He scored just 12 points on 3-13 shooting in a game where Hornets coach Keith Lee became the former 3rd overall pick.

But after his rough outing on Tuesday, Ball bounced back in the Hornets’ 123-121 overtime win over the Detroit Pistons. He finished with nearly a triple double, rolled in with 35 points with 6 rebounds and 9 assists to continue his strong start to the season. Unfortunately, he fouled out late in the game, leaving the door open for a win for the Pistons. But it was not to be.

LaMelo Ball’s teammate and No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, Brandon Millertook over during his teammates’ absence. Miller poured in 8 points in overtime to finish with a game-high 38 points while draining 8 threes to lead the Hornets to a victory. The win puts them in the playoffs with the 9th seed in the Eastern Conference.
