What Shane Beamer said after South Carolina’s blowout win over Wofford

After South Carolina’s 56-12 win over Wofford on Saturday, head coach Shane Beamer spoke to the media about the team’s performance. Here’s what he had to say.

— Fun way to end the home season. Thanks to the fans. Selling out every home game this year is beautiful. Don’t take it for granted. Never take Williams-Brice Stadium for granted.

— Great night playing the Salute to Troops game. Have so much gratitude for the men and women who give us the freedom to live in the greatest country. Heard the crowd start chanting “USA USA USA”. Got chills at that moment.

— Many great things are happening with Gamecock athletics. Points out that he gave Ray Tanner a game ball for his last home game as AD. Said he wants to hire Tanner as an assistant on staff in the future. Tanner jokingly says, “How much does it pay?”

– Great respect for Wofford. Knew they would come in here and fight. They did a good job coming in here. Thought the start of the match was terrible. Did not communicate properly on the first play of the game. Points out many of the early problems in this game.

– There was no possibility to enter the dressing room and raise hell during the break. They talked about why the score was only 21-9 and why it was up to them to turn it around. Said the offense should go right down the field and score and then they should play like Gamecock football after that. Proud of their response after the break to play the way they did. They were a MASH unit out there from a damage standpoint. Have a great group of young men. Excited about them.

– Injury Updates: Jared Brown should be fine. He had a little hand injury last week. He’ll be fine for next weekend. Dre Jacobs, not sure. Hoarding. Josh Simon: they will see and the same with Michael Smith.

– Dalevon Campbell has been fantastic. They gave him a game ball after the game. He has worked really hard in practice. He does a good job. The wide receiver room looks completely different now compared to how it looked in September. Campbell is a perfect example of that.

– It was emotional today with senior day. These are some great young men. Have a great gratitude for the special group. These are some really good players who will not be back next year. Happy for them to end their career with a win at home.

– They were ready for fakes on special teams from Wofford. They talked about all the things they did on special teams in their Tuesday meeting. They were clearly not ready enough. The fake punt was about the same as the one Notre Dame ran on them in the Gator Bowl two years ago. Tonight they were in safe defense to be ready for the fake. But Wofford did a good job of putting beyond the rim. Just didn’t defend it well enough. On the fake field goal touchdown that was called back as soon as Wofford reached the line of scrimmage, he knew something was up. They were in position but didn’t defend it well. He didn’t deliver the message well enough on Tuesday. Don’t blame Wofford for letting it all out. Bad coaching starts with him.

— It says a lot about the people in this program that Spencer Rattler wanted to come back to Columbia this weekend. It was great to see him.

— Winning five games in a row is a testament to the program. They were 3-3 behind Alabama and there was no panic or finger pointing. To be where they are right now is really amazing. Thanks to the management of this team. Getting better is something they are proud of.

— To be determined if this is one of the best seasons he’s had in coaching with two guaranteed games left. It’s rewarding because of how last season went and how the guys have responded. It’s rewarding because of the players who decided to come back after last year. They all doubled down on this program and wanted to leave this place better than they did in 2023. They knew they weren’t that far off. So glad the boys have been as successful as they have been this year.

— Don’t want to go home and start dissecting Clemson just yet. He’s going to enjoy this one. It will be great to have two ranked teams going up against each other. That’s how it should be every year. Have a lot of respect for Dabo Swinney. They will return to work tomorrow and learn from this game. There is a lot to clean up. It will be a normal Saturday night. Can’t wait to get to work tomorrow.

— I haven’t actually talked about the future at all. Not naive and knows his players hear about the playoff talk. It’s a cliché, but they try to go 1-0 every week. They are having a good November right now. It could be a fantastic November if they finish strong. Nothing matters if you don’t win football games. After that, they will have done everything they can.

– Getting Luke Doty in at the start came down to the tight end situation. They should play more four wide receiver sets. Doty was essentially the guy to replace the tight end in what would normally be a three-receiver set with a tight end. That’s why he started tonight.

— Knock on wood while being asked how well LaNorris Sellers has played. What a player he is. He just keeps getting better and gaining confidence. He continues to be a great player week in and week out.

— It feels like they took a step in the right direction this week. It was a challenge with the injury situation this week. But because of that, they got better because they’ve expanded their offense. That makes things more difficult for Clemson to prepare for the next game. From that point of view, they got better.
