Kentucky Wildcats Basketball makes more history after big win over Jackson State

Another day, another offensive milestone for Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats.

Through five games, Kentucky has hit the century mark three times following a 108-59 win over Jackson State. The Wildcats nearly did it four times in five games after falling behind by just three points in Tuesday’s 97-68 win over Lipscomb.

As it turns out, Kentucky was able to make history this week after hitting the 97+ point mark twice, making it four times that has been accomplished this season.

According to UK Sports Network’s Corey Price, this is the first time in program history that Kentucky men’s basketball has scored 97+ points in the first four home games,

Add a 77-72 neutral court win over a top-10 Duke team, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a hotter offense in college basketball.

That will be challenged more this coming week when Kentucky faces a Western Kentucky team ranked 129th in KenPom efficiency on the strength of their 72nd-ranked defense. Both are the second-highest ranked marks Kentucky will have faced through the first six games, with Duke being the highest at fourth overall and third in defensive efficiency.

The following week will vs. Clemson (38th overall and 48th in defense) and Gonzaga (second overall and 18th in defense) show us if the Duke game was an outlier or if it was the standard of greatness this team is capable of.

After failing to reach the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 2019, BBN is hoping for the latter.
