Chris Sutton’s immediate reaction as Celtic go 11 points ahead

After a shaky first-half performance, Celtic fans were worried whether Brendan Rodgers’ side were set to follow suit and drop points this weekend like Aberdeen and Rangers. After the break, however, the Hoops showed why they are champions by scoring four past Hearts away at Tynecastle Park to claim all three points.

Kyogo opened the scoring before Nicolas Kuhn doubled the lead. Adam Idah scored a brace off the bench in what turned out to be a 4-1 win for Celtic.

The result means Celtic are now three points ahead of Aberdeen, who lost at the weekend. On the other hand, they are a remarkable 11 points ahead of Rangers, who drew 1-1 with Dundee United.

Chris Sutton is known for his cheeky digs at Rangers and he couldn’t resist one after this weekend’s results. The Celtic hero declared Aberdeen the real challengers while calling it a good point for Philippe Clement’s side, who are firmly in third place.

It would take a miracle for Celtic not to go on and win the title from here. We’ve been waiting for a slip-up from Aberdeen for so long and it finally came at the weekend.

Now it remains to be seen if Aberdeen can brush off that result and continue playing at the top level. A lot of the time, those kind of results can disrupt the momentum of an underdog team doing well and derail their form forever.

As for the Rangers, it’s hard to see where they go from here. Things just don’t get better for them. On top of that, they handed Clement a lengthy contract extension earlier this season, which makes a firing that much more difficult. Many of their fans will be hoping he ends up as the Belgian manager.
