NDSU Wrestling falls to #10 Minnesota

FARGO, ND – North Dakota State wrestling fell to no. 10 Minnesota 39-0 Friday night at the Scheels Center as the Golden Gophers ran the table with five bonus-point decisions.

The Bison were held scoreless for the first time since 2009 and just the fourth time in the Division I era. The last shutout came in a 42-0 loss to No. 21 at Oregon State on December 13, 2009.

NDSU gave up a pair of decisions to start the dual, but Kyle Burwick nearly had a win at 133 pounds as time expired while Burwick tried to finish off a landing shot, falling by a 3-2 loss to #8 Tyler Wells.

#32 Gavin Drexler would also finish with a narrow loss to #22 Drew Roberts at 149 pounds. Drexler secured a late takedown and then finished with another takedown as time expired to fall 8-6.

Minnesota secured four bonus point wins in the final five matches, including three straight technical falls to end the dual. #1 Gable Steveson finished the heavyweight dual with an 18-3 technical fall in 1:50 in his collegiate return.

NDSU set a wrestling attendance record at the Scheels Center with 1,529, breaking the previous mark of 1,511 against #3 Oklahoma State on November 26, 2017.

The Bison will be off for three weeks before returning to face #12 Iowa State in Humboldt, Iowa on December 15th.
