Barbie honors Rita Moreno with a doll ahead of her 93rd birthday

Rita Moreno is one of only 21 artists to have achieved EGOT status. And now she has arrived at another – miniature – milestone!

Just in time for the acting legend’s 93rd birthday in December, Moreno will receive her very own tribute Barbie doll, which will be available for purchase at Mattel store beginning Wednesday, November 20, the company has announced.

“I was a girl who decided to go for it, and despite the challenges I faced, I never gave up on my dreams. That’s what I hope this doll inspires every girl today: to live their lives with courage and resilience so they can make their dreams come true,” Moreno said in a statement shared by Barbie.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with Barbie to bring this doll to life, and I hope it serves as a reminder to embrace your limitless possibilities and pursue your passions, because when you embrace them, you’re bound to to reach far,” she added.

Part of the Barbie Tribute Collection, Moreno’s doll was created with the help of the superstar actress herself, as she worked with the company on everything from the doll originally designed in her likeness to the finishing touches on its outfit.

The mini wardrobe is of course inspired by Moreno’s own most famous red carpet moments — wearing a black-and-gold dress with a strapless sweetheart neckline and a metallic-designed skirt, all of which reflect some of her most iconic looks. For accessories, Moreno’s doll wears a pair of opera-length gloves, earrings and an updo reminiscent of her own.

Krista Berger, senior vice president of Barbie and global head of dolls, Mattel, said in a statement that it is an “honor” to have Moreno be part of the Tribute Collection – which also features the likes of Laverne Cox, Lucille Ball and more.

“As one of the few artists to achieve EGOT status as a star, she has broken stereotypes and barriers for Latinos in the entertainment industry and beyond,” said Berger. “Her fierce advocacy for the Latino community and her tireless commitment to pursuing her passions in the performing arts perfectly encapsulates Barbie’s mission to inspire the next generation to lean into what ignites their spark, chart their own paths and believe in their limitless possibilities.”

Mini Moreno comes over a year after the company debuted Stevie Nicks’ very own doll, which she told PEOPLE she “just fell in love with” at first sight.

“Just the detail that Mattel puts into these dolls — I don’t even want to say the word ‘doll’ — into these little people is just so specific and really beautiful,” she said last fall. “I have yet to meet whoever it was that actually designed her, and I can’t wait to meet that person so I can just rant about all the little details that I think are so beautiful about her.”

Moreno’s doll will be available for purchase Mattel store for $40, beginning Wednesday, November 20.
