Fresh, frozen burgers recalled in E.coli case that has made 15 sick

Ground beef and burgers sent to restaurants have been recalled due to concerns about E.coli.

Wolverine Packing Co. recalled over 167,000 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E.coli 0157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday.

The fresh products have a use-by date of 14.11.2024 and the frozen products are marked with a production date of 22.10.24.

The recall includes all products with the company number “EST.2574B” inside the USDA mark of inspection are all subject to recall.

Ground beef was shipped to various restaurants across the country, and FSIS is concerned that some product may be in restaurant refrigerators or freezers. All products must be discarded or returned.

FSIS was notified by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture that a group of people who became ill last week with E.coli had all eaten ground beef traced back to Wolverine Packaging.

So far, 15 people have been reported sick in Minnesota.

E. coli 0157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and stomach cramps, officials said.
