A cyclist has died following a crash with a lorry in north Belfast on Thursday morning.

Police confirmed a man in his 50s died at the scene as a result of his injuries following the incident on Clifton Street.

Inspector Cherith Adair from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit said: “Shortly before 7.50am it was reported that a lorry and a cyclist were involved in the collision. The man who was the cyclist sadly died at the scene as as a result of his injuries.

“Clifton Street remains closed in both directions between Carlisle Circus and North Queens Street, with both the on slip and off slip on the Westlink at Clifton Street closed.

“Inquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information or who may have dash-cam footage available to contact police on 101 quoting reference 178 21/11/24.”

Earlier today, the ambulance service confirmed they sent two emergency crews and a doctor to the scene of the serious incident on the A12.

A spokesman said: “Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 7.53am on Thursday November 21 following reports of an RTC in the Clifton Street area, Belfast.

“NIAS dispatched two emergency ambulance crews and a doctor to the incident.

“After initial assessment and treatment at the scene, no patients were taken to hospital.”
