How much snow is the National Weather Service predicting?

The Poconos will be under a Winter Storm Warning from 4:00 PM Thursday through 4:00 PM Friday.

“Totals will be very elevation dependent” in Pike and Wayne counties, the National Weather Service said, from just a few inches of snow in valleys to “5-12 inches above 1,500 feet. Totals of 12-18 inches possible in the highest elevations in the West Wayne, eastern Lackawanna, Delaware and eastern Susquehanna counties.”

Carbon and Monroe counties can expect heavy, wet snow, the NWS said, also with higher totals at higher elevations.

“Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches with gusts up to 35 mph, with the highest accumulations and strongest winds at and above 1,500 feet in northern Carbon and northwestern Monroe counties. Lower elevations will receive significantly less snow and wind,” the NWS said.

Snow could bring down trees and power lines and cause power outages, the NWS said.
