Monday’s front brings a few storms and cooler weather

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – After another day of record heat, we’ll try to bring back the fall vibe before we get home from work and school on Monday and hopefully get some non-serious rain and rumble in the process.

The coming week will bring two fronts: The first will be the accountant and the one who puts out the record heat. Cold front number two will be the one that brings us the coolest air we’ve seen so far this season, if only for a few days or so.

Front number one

Model data Sunday night is pretty consistently quiet in terms of severe weather materializing, but there are a few reasons to keep an eye on Monday’s storms.

First, you’ve no doubt felt the air out there: It’s STROFFED. There is ample low-level moisture, and enough low-level “spin” that some isolated storms and storms along the front tomorrow COULD rotate, potentially meaning some strong winds or even a tornado or two. That said, the dynamics involved are pretty weak, so we don’t expect much there. This is just enough of a potential to perk up our ears, very closely following the expected line of rain and storms as it moves through.

After the line of storms rolls through your area, your severe threat is over and you’ve probably seen all the rain you’ll see through the end of the week and the weekend. Barring a lingering shower or two, this and front #2 will ensure that dry air sticks around for a while.

Front page number two

This won’t be MUCH cooler than the very quick cool snap we experienced in October, but it will be the coolest, most sustained fall chill we’ve seen so far this season. Overnight lows in the low 40s (upper 30s in our northern counties) can be expected through Friday morning, with a slow warming trend to above average but quite comfortable into the coming weekend.

As always, keep your First Alert Weather app handy as storms develop and move through the area tomorrow as we keep you updated every step of the way.
