What we know about the newest ship to sail from Florida

Adding a cruise ship to your fleet is not as easy as e.g. to add a new sweater to your wardrobe. Orders for ships are placed years in advance, and tickets are also ordered months in advance. So for avid Disney Cruise Line fans, Christmas really comes early as the brand new one Disney Treasures launching from Port Canaveral, Florida, next month.

The Disney Treasures is the sixth ship in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet. The original ship, the Disney magichad its maiden voyage in 1998, and was the first vessel of its kind to invite vacationers at sea to combine their love of open water and crystal blue water with their fondness for Mickey, Minnie and the entire Disney crew.

No detail on a Disney cruise ship is overlooked. The new ship features seven custom horn sounds, from “Remember Me” from the movie Coco to “A Whole New World” from the film Aladdin. The ship’s Grand Hall is also decorated to give a nod to the 1992 film, with a central statue of Jasmine and Aladdin flying on the magic carpet amid decorations with Asian and African influences, much like Agrabah. Genie’s lamp will stand on a pedestal at the bottom of the grand staircase.

Shows and entertainment at Disney Treasure

Disney’s universe goes beyond the characters of its classic animated films. With Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars everyone is part of the wider Disney family now, the cruise ships can bring entertainment from many sources – and that’s what they do on Treasure.

For example, a new Broadway-style show will debut at Treasure. Disney the story of Moana brings its adventures to where they took place – the high seas – and invites guests along for the journey with Moana.

A beloved show from Disney Wish, Beauty and the Beast, will also be listed on the Tax.

Restaurants and lounges at Disney Treasure

Two walk-up cafes next to the Grand Hall will offer coffee, tea and snacks. Each will be themed after two Disney princesses, Moana and Mulan. Heihei Café, a nod to Moana’s clumsy sidekick, is decorated with furniture that pays homage to traditional Polynesian seafaring vessels. Jade Cricket Café honors the Fa family’s cricket and will have decorations that represent Mulan’s strength and beauty.

Several lounges will be available to guests, and some will feature an entirely new theme never before seen on a Disney Cruise Line vessel. For example, the classic from 1970 The Aristocats gets a new lounge called the Scat Cat Lounge. It’s themed after an old-school jazz club, complete with a special menu of cat-themed cocktails.

Skipper Society is a cocktail lounge that also pays tribute to the Jungle Cruise attraction. Themed cocktails and snacks. A Haunted Mansion-themed saloon is themed after the beloved ghostly attraction, and the Periscope Pub takes visitors back to the 1954 film 20,000 leagues under the sea with underwater inspired drinks.

For your meals, you will be able to dine at the theatrical Plaza de Coco restaurant, which is themed to the Pixar film Coco. There you can eat dishes such as Abuelita Elena Shrimpa Diabla and Chorizo Street Croquettes.

For superhero fans, the World of Marvel restaurant comes over from Disney Wish and offers dinner with a show called Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix. If nothing else, the music will be exceptional.

Disney is also loved for their Quick Service restaurants, their take on fast casual service, and they haven’t skimped on the theme here either. Jumbeaux’s Sweets nods to the film Zootopiawith ice cream, gelato, cupcakes and more sweets. We are waiting to see if they have jumbo pop!

Areas for adults only

Most of the lounges and nightclubs are adults-only, but several adult-only restaurants are also featured at Treasure, including Palo Steakhouse, which is inspired by Cogworth from Beauty and the Beast. Enchanté is another Beauty and the Beast-inspired restaurant, this one with French-inspired cuisine.

Leisure and water features

It wouldn’t be a cruise without plenty of pools and waterslides, and Treasure is introducing the AquaMouse, a two-seater water slide that takes you through a cartoon-themed ride before sloshing you into a twisted rope of tubes. Better wear your bathing suit!

If you like your time by the water more sedate, a Quiet Cove Pool is also available for guests 18 and over.
