Naomi Scott says ‘Smile 2’ is more than a horror film

While Smile 2 is billed as a horror film and no doubt has its share of gruesome movie elements like blood and gore, Naomi Scott knew from the moment she read Parker Finn’s script for the film that it was going beyond genre.

In a recent Zoom conversation, Scott said she approached Smile 2 as she did all her other roles.

“I am completely genre-agnostic and Smile 2 felt like an opportunity,” Scott said. “After watching the first film, it was very clear to me that it was a film that focuses on character. In Parker’s Smile film, the story depends on the character, and if you remove the horror elements – which I think only adds to the viewer’s experience, but also the conversation and the entertainment itself – it really plays like a drama.”

Rated R, Smile 2 playing in theaters and debuting on PVOD on Tuesday.
