Austin Reaves discusses how trouble on the road could be ‘good’ for the Lakers

At home, the Lakers look like a promising team that is finding ways to win. They have remained unbeaten in six matches at the Crypto.com Arena.

On the road, they’ve been blown out by the Cavs, lost handily to the Grizzlies and suffered an embarrassing loss to the Pistons.

With a 1-4 national record, the Lakers head to San Antonio to face the Spurs and begin their quest to win a second NBA Cup.

It will be a short trip with back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. It would be ideal if Los Angeles could pull out a few wins and quiet the noise that they are a far worse team away from home.

Amidst the Lakers’ recent homestand, Austin Reaves discussed the team’s road woes following Sunday’s win against the Raptors and put a positive spin on the current situation.

“You want it to go smoothly all the time,” Reaves said. “Obviously, you’re going to go through ups and downs. I think not playing well on that road trip might have been a good thing for us to really buy into what we have to do to be successful. I feel like these coaches put us in positions to be successful and when we buy in and do that, good things happen, even if it’s an adjustment to the game plan, they come in and say, ‘We have mess with this.

“Everybody just holds each other accountable. So it’s a beautiful thing to see.”

You have to love Reaves’ positive attitude on this one. The NBA season is long, and it won’t always be smooth sailing. If struggles are going to happen, it’s better to get them out of the way early, address what needs to be fixed and improve so the team can be its best after the playoffs.

Fortunately, LA’s upcoming struggles won’t be against top talent. The Spurs are .500 entering Friday’s contest, and the Pelicans, who they play on Saturday, are 3-6.

So they should be able to perform better during this road trip and potentially win both games and return to Los Angeles on a five-game winning streak.
