OKC Thunder Stars win Western Conference Player of the Week nomination

The Oklahoma City Thunder saw devastating news last Sunday against the Golden State Warriors. Rising star Chet Holmgren challenged the cutting Andrew Wiggins at the rim, and when the two met, Holmgren fell hard on his hip.

After the game, when it was Monday, the team announced that Holmgren had a broken hip. That injury will sideline him for much of the NBA regular season, but the team said it expected the seven-footer to return to the lineup during the 2024-2025 campaign.

Still down, Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams to boot, panic set in regarding the OKC Thunder. Although the Bricktown ballers were able to turn to their superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and rising star Jalen Williams to carry them to a near perfect week.

In the final four games of a six-game homestand, the Thunder ripped off three straight wins before falling to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. This was largely due to the scoring efforts of the Thunder duo. That includes Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who went for a career-best 45 points a week ago.

Their performance in that stretch earned each of them a nod as a Western Conference Player of the Week nominee. This is a feat that Gilgeous-Alexander has accomplished all season, but Williams’ first nomination. It is already the second time this season that Oklahoma City has submitted two nominees, and Holmgren ran for the award after week one.

The two fell just short of the award when the NBA issued the honor to Sacramento Kings star De’Aaron Fox. The Kentucky product averaged 40.5 points and 7.3 assists per game. game while shooting 57 percent from the floor.
