Another day, another dollar. One more for the books. Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. . . which is the start of one of Shakespeare’s finest monologues, from the play Macbeth. Sequestered in his castle of Dunsinane, preparing for battle against his gathering enemies, the murderous Scottish king is informed that his wife has killed herself. He says:

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,

Crawling at this petty pace from day to day,

To the last syllable of recorded time;

And all our yesterdays have lit fools

The road to dusty death. Out, out, short light!

Life is but a wandering shadow, a poor player,

There bristles and worries his hour on the stage,

And then no more is heard. It’s a story

Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,

Means nothing.

Pretty ugly. I suppose that’s what happens when you hear a witch’s prophecy, murder the king in cold blood, and take his throne and rule as a tyrant. Power corrupts. But I digress. We have a word to solve!

Word analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I got lucky today after my opening guess flopped. PLEAT was only useful because it removed five common letters from the guessing pool. With zero yellow or green boxes, I had to guess all new letters. GROIN seemed like a good option here, and it proved to be very well, so I have only one possible solution: GO for the win! What a very strange word. . . .

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 1 point for guessing three and 0 for tying Bot. 1 point for me!

How to play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 point; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. If you stand straight, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or play for a new score every day.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

“walks” derived from Old English “well” (to go), linked to Proto-Germanic “gānā” and Proto-Indo-European *“ǵhē-“ (to step or move). It developed through Middle English “going” in its modern form.
