Demi Moore’s Bubble Hem Dress at the 2024 Governors Awards

Demi Moore loves to take risks for her carpet appearances, from attending a screening of The Substance in a blazer and jumpsuit accessorized with her dog Pilaf, to revamping the classic LBD to include a surprise neckline. The unexpected moments continue with Moore’s appearance at the 2024 Governors Awards, where she had a leggy moment on the red carpet, stepping foot first into one of fashion’s most controversial hemlines.

For the event, which took place at the Grand Ballroom in Hollywood and the Highland Center in Los Angeles on Nov. 17, Moore wore a tried-and-true little black dress from Givenchy’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection. The dress ventured into micro territory and gave the actress’ legs a chance to shine – literally – and also allowed a unique detail to take center stage.

The mini dress also had a wing-like detail that extended out from the sides to give the effect of a bubble seam that went all the way to the floor, acting as a train for the back of Moore’s dress. To further up the drama, the 62-year-old accessorised, wearing a chandelier necklace dripping with diamonds and chandelier earrings set with emeralds. Moore’s hair was styled in loose waves and her signature middle part.

Moore’s leggy dress moment comes just days after she reflected on Hollywood’s beauty standards in an interview with Elle. She remembered the backlash she received from appearing in Charlie’s Angels in a bikini.

“I never imagined in a million years that I would shoot in Charlie’s Angels would become such a big conversation,” she reflected. “But I was 40, which meant I didn’t have to have a body that was desirable—that’s what I challenged.”

While society has changed how it perceives older women, Moore still believes there is work to be done in how postmenopausal women are viewed. “I think that has changed, and now I happen to be 62 years old at a time when we have to reevaluate the desirability of a woman who has gone through menopause,” she said. “Women used to be relegated to the sidelines, made to be almost asexual. It’s not that I’ve set out to redefine that; it’s really that I’ve just tried to find what’s truthful and authentic in myself – and if I can do that, hopefully it reflects on others.”
