Josh Brolin remembers Barbra Streisand’s response when he asked for wine: ‘Aren’t you drunk?’

Josh Brolin reflects on a candid interaction he had with Barbra Streisand about his drinking.

In an interview published on Saturday, November 16 with The Times to promote his upcoming memoir From under the truckthe No country for old men actor talked about his sobriety and an incident involving his famous stepmother.

On one occasion, before he was sober, Josh, 56, went to his father James Brolin, 84, and Streisand’s house and asked for a glass of wine. Streisand, 82, who married James in 1996, replied: “But aren’t you a drunk?”

“There’s nothing I ultimately value more in anybody than an ability to just say it, regardless of the reaction,” he said.

Josh got sober in 2013 after he woke up outside his house after a drunken night out and later sat awake by his grandmother’s deathbed smelling of alcohol. At that moment he realized he was halfway through his life and wanted to live the other half sober.

“I knew it would be the last time I drank,” he shared The Times. He went to rehab and joined Alcoholics Anonymous. “I like getting older. It’s like a good excuse to finally say, ‘OK, don’t worry, you don’t have to spin constantly,'” he added.
