Rick George sends a strong message about Deion Sanders’ future with Colorado football

CU AD Rick George made it abundantly clear that Deion Sanders is not leaving the Colorado football program anytime soon. In fact, George said on the Nov. 17 edition of the “Zero 2 Sixty Podcast” that Coach Prime is “just getting started” in Boulder.

“I think there’s a lot of people out there who, you know, will say he’s just jumping in Boulder and he’s out of here. Deion’s not going anywhere. The guy’s committed here. He’s just getting started and I feel really good about our relationship and his love for Boulder and our tradition here and the community has embraced him,” George said (h/t) Pro Football Network).

“I mean, well, he doesn’t want to have the distractions of talking about a contract during the season, but certainly after the season, we’ll talk about the future. So let people say what they want to say. The only two that knowing the truth, it’s Deion and I having those conversations and we’re going to keep moving our feet and we’re always going to do what’s best for CU.”

George shared basically the same attitude in October before the Buffs’ current streak.

“We’re hoping Coach Prime finishes his career here … he and I are on the same page … it’s not a short-term fix … I like the culture he’s created,” George said (h/t ) The Coloradoan’s Scott Procter).

George isn’t going to say anything else, but he’s certainly putting himself out there with such definitive statements.

Buffs fans won’t be happy if it turns out he was just blowing smoke and saying this. But they can never really be upset with AD, who empowered “Prime Time” to set up shop in Boulder with an almost clean slate.
