Hannah Kobayashi missing: Family shares Hawaii Woman’s ‘alarming’ messages

The family of missing Hawaii resident Hannah Kobayashi have said the last messages received from her were alarming and out of character.

Kobayashi, 31, was last heard from on November 11. Concerns were raised after she missed a connecting flight from Maui to New York from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on November 8.

The family has filed a missing persons report with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Kobayashi’s aunt, Larie Pidgeon, said USA today of the “alarming” messages Kobayashi sent to his family on November 11.

“We started getting texts that she didn’t feel safe, that someone was trying to steal her money, that someone was trying to take her identity,” Pidgeon said. She added that Kobayashi said other “weird things” and called her family members “babe,” which was out of character for her.

In a separate statement, Pidgeon told broadcaster KTLA that Kobayashi also sent “Strange, cryptic messages — things about the matrix, it was so unlike her. And then suddenly no more communication.”

Security footage from LAX on November 8 showed Kobayashi leaving the airport dressed in a black hoodie and tie-dye leggings. She missed her connecting flight to New York as she had just flown in from Maui.

In messages sent to her family on November 8, Kobayashi said she had been hacked and “stripped” of her identity so she could not fly.

Pidgeon then said her niece was seen at The Grove mall, about 10 miles from LAX. On November 9, she was seen by staff at the Taschen bookshop in The Grove and then on video at a Nike event the following day. On November 10, she posted on Instagram about the event.

On November 11, Kobayashi texted friends that she had just finished a “very intense spiritual awakening” and was heading back to the airport to “get to NYC.” She also added that she might need help getting there and that it was a “long story.”

Her phone was last secured at the airport in LAX on Nov. 11, but she did not board a flight, her family said, citing airport personnel. Her phone, which is in an Audrey Hepburn phone case, has not been found.

On November 17, the family issued a statement to a Facebook page, set out to find Kobayashi and said they had obtained video surveillance that showed her near the Pico Metro Station in Downtown LA.

“It is clear from the footage that Hannah does not appear to be in good condition and she is not alone,” the statement read, advising members of the public assisting in the search to focus on the Pico station area and remain vigilant, when using the metro in LA.

Kobayashi is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 140 pounds. She has brown hair, brown eyes and fair skin with freckles.

Anyone with information on Kobayashi’s whereabouts is asked to call the LAPD at 1-877-527-3247 or the Missing Persons Support Organization The Rad movement at 619-904-0840.
