Canucks place D Derek Forbort on injured reserve, recalls D Elias Pettersson from AHL

The The Vancouver Canucks made a few moves to their blueline ahead of Sunday’s game against the Nashville Predators.

Defenseman Derek Forbort, who left practice early on Nov. 4 while favoring his right leg, was placed on injured reserve. The 32-year-old defender had just returned from a personal absence before he suffered the lower body injury.

In four games this season, the 10-year NHL veteran has one assist, five blocked shots and a minus-1 rating.

To fill Forbort’s spot on the roster, Vancouver recalled defenseman — yes, defenseman — Elias Pettersson from AHL Abbotsford.

The 20-year-old Pettersson shares a name and homeland with Canucks star forward Elias Pettersson, but is not related. The six-foot-three defenseman was a third-round pick by Vancouver in 2022.

A left-handed shot, Pettersson has skated in 15 games with Abbotsford this season and has tallied four assists and a plus-3 rating.
