McDonald’s announces ‘new value meal’ and tells the future of the $5 Meal Deal

UNDATED (WKRC/CNN Newsource) – The Golden Arch chain announced a new value meal to lure back customers, making official what will happen to the $5 meal deal.

McDonald’s has taken significant steps to recover from a recent E. coli outbreak that sickened more than 100 people and led to a drop in sales. The outbreak was traced to sliced onions used in McDonald’s Quarter Pounder burgers, which caused a significant drop in sales.

The fast food giant announced it is investing $100 million to support its franchises most affected by the outbreak and to launch a new marketing campaign.

McDonald’s said it is allocating $35 million to a marketing campaign promoting a new chicken nuggets value meal, while $65 million will be used to help the hardest-hit franchisees.

The new chicken nuggets value meal is from November 4th to December 2nd and is 10-piece Chicken McNuggets for $1. The chain also said its $5 meal deal “continues, and a majority of local markets are extending it through December.”

McDonald’s has also said that recent tests have shown no presence of E. coli in its food, and the Quarter Pounder burger has been reintroduced to menus nationwide.
